We originally planned to share this video on our anniversary to celebrate four years of marriage and one year since our dream wedding. However, Rhys arrived the day before, and posting went out the window with the rest of our plans.

Today we’re celebrating a decade of being together, so it seems fitting to share now. The song chosen by our videographer to honor our love story also feels weirdly apt for a week that has been hard on many fronts.

If I know anything for certain, it’s that my choice in partner was the best decision I’ve ever made. There is no one else I’d rather go through life with, and I wake up immensely grateful every day. Thank you for the last 10 years, @joshcshirley, and cheers to many many more.

On August 21, 2024 at 1:35 AM, Rhys Cameron Shirley made an early appearance in Honolulu, Hawaii. As perhaps the largest preemie on the block, Rhys weighed 5 lbs 11 oz and was just about 19 inches long at birth. After 27 days in the NICU and a bonus week in Honolulu following discharge, we returned home to settle into life as a family of three. Rhys is doing great, and remains ahead of the curve as he continues to demonstrate to us that he was very much ready to be born.

Today (October 4) was Rhys's due date and we've been reflecting with immense gratitude on the community who surrounded us with love during our unexpected stay in Hawaii. There are not enough thank yous for the countless family, friends and colleagues who rallied to make our time in Hawaii as smooth as possible. We're also incredibly grateful for the hospital staff at Kapi'olani Medical Center, and particularly the NICU nurses, who made our experience as easy as it could be. We could not have asked for a better care team for Rhys (or for us-- being a NICU parent is no joke). Having a newborn seven weeks early and 4,954 miles away from home was certainly not the plan, but we feel so lucky to have had the support that we did.

Now that we're home, we're adjusting to our beautiful new normal. We're truly loving every single second and couldn't be happier to be home with our sweet, resilient little guy. We've never been more grateful to be sleep deprived or covered in spit up.

And to answer your most burning questions: yes, the cats have met him, and no, they're not so sure that having a baby was the right call.

As I was looking for some inspiration for today’s look, I came across several new-to-me articles about the problematic comments and choices that colored Karl Lagerfeld’s career. If you plan to enjoy red carpet coverage this evening, I would encourage you to read up on the racist, fatphobic and misogynistic comments and behavior that mar his legacy. It for sure made me question the theme (which I didn’t even realize was the theme until Rihanna’s post over the weekend, oops), as others who are far more steeped in fashion have been for some time.

I was terrible at posting my outfits last week (life got in the way), but I still filmed a few things that I’ll share over the coming days. This was last Thursday— I wanted to build an outfit around a Jersey turtleneck top that I sewed last year and I think it came out pretty well! I’m trying to get better at wearing my #memade clothes and incorporating them into my everyday looks.

This is another busy week that includes some travel, but looking forward to being creative and enjoying pulling things together. Lots of fun things on the horizon!

Here’s my go-to recipe for polar vortex dressing

Here’s my go-to recipe for polar vortex dressing:

1. Dress like a sexy bank robber or a member of a critically-acclaimed interpretive dance troupe. This is your base layer. Not only will it help ward off the bitter chill, it will also make you look very cool and popular.

2. Add heavy socks and boots. Heavy socks are a must because they’ll keep your toes from turning into tiny frozen tater tots. I’m a fan of repurposing the hiking socks that I keep in my drawer to make me feel ~outdoorsy~ for this purpose.

3. Add a chunky sweater. Homemade is best, but store bought is fine in a pinch.

4. Accessorize with a bag and some sunnies. Remember that the sunnies may actually do more harm than good as they freeze to your face, but this is the price of fashion.

5. Laugh at yourself for thinking that anything you wear will be sufficient to brave the cold. Order an iced coffee anyway and loudly announce “This is what I drink year round.”
